Fall 2020 Session: Rehearsals Have a Start Date!

The Tucson New Horizons Band will start rehearsals for the Fall 2020 season Sunday, October 18th from 3:00 – 4:00 pm via Zoom.

Due to the ongoing Covid situation, we still cannot meet in person so we will go virtual using Zoom and Smart Music. Unfortunately, we are not going to be starting beginners this year, and the exact format of our ensemble(s) is still to be worked out. We will not have sectional instruction right now, but we may be able to begin that again in the spring. Things may be different but we can still make music together!

Current members, please check your email for a message from Matthew with all the details!

Tucson New Horizons Band Spring Concert

A Band is Born!

Tucson New Horizons Band Spring 2019 Concert
Inaugural performance of the Tucson New Horizons Band – Spring 2019 Concert

Started in October 2018, the Tucson New Horizons Band brought together a varied group of older Tucsonans with a wide spectrum of music making histories. Members’ music playing abilities ranged from currently playing an instrument, having once played but had been away from it for many years, to ones who had never played an instrument nor read music before. Six months later after having one two-hour rehearsal a week, the inaugural public performance of the Tucson New Horizons band was held on May 4th, 2019 in a shared concert with University of Arizona Outreach Honor Band in Crowder Hall on the UA campus.

Eagerly waiting for the concert to begin!

Tucson New Horizons played two pieces on its own and a third was played together with the UA Outreach Honor Band that includes 6th – 9th graders. The bands only had a few hours of combined rehearsal together, but it was a great experience to have younger and older musicians play and learn together.
